I really am trying to break the habit of constantly starting new projects and having a zillion WIPs before finishing any of them. But sometimes inspiration strikes and there is just nothing you can do about it.
A week and a half ago my sister sent me this lovely mustard-colored dress, which reminded me of some lovely mustard-colored yarn I picked up at Stitches: Debbie Bliss Merino Chunky, 10 balls with only 55 yds per ball. Not enough for a sweater and too much for anything small. Initially I thought about doing a lacy shrug to really get the most out of the yarn. I swatched a couple patterns from the Barbara Walker's I currently have from the library and although I really liked the way they yarn looked in a couple patterns - chunky, but lacy, and with good stitch definition - I eventually decided I wanted something that could be done a little more mindlessly. So here it is: top down with raglan shaping, and then picked up stitches all around for the ribbing.
Overall I am pleased, but not ecstatic. I'm going to have to wear it a few times to really see how I like it. I haven't blocked it yet and I'm nervous it'll grow and be too big- its a little bunchy around the elbows, and the ribbing across the back could be tighter. Instead of going down a needle size for the ribbing I just decreased. If after a couple wearings it turns out to be too big, I may frog and make it smaller because I wanted the ribbing to be a little wider but I ran out of yarn, which is also why there is one round done with some of the Lamb's Pride bulky I had leftover from Paul-John's hat. I would probably add that again anyways. I started swatching for this on 1/28, cast on for the project on 1/30, and finished it today, 2/7. Now that this is done, I am determined to start sewing, now that Mike is out of the craft room and get back to work on the hexagon blanket.
